Ranveer Singh is going to act in Aditya Dhar’s next film, a big-budget movie which also includes Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. The celebs themselves made this announcement a few months prior on social media. According to a recent source, Ranveer would play the film’s opposite to Sara Arjun, a former child artist. Additionally, the internet hasn’t done much to bridge their twenty-year age gap.
Sara Arjun cast as Ranveer Singh’s heroine in Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film
Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film has yet to receive an official title, but according to Peeping Moon’s rumour, Sara Arjun, 19, has been cast as Ranveer’s character’s love interest. Known for portraying Aishwarya Rai’s younger role in Ponniyin Selvan, the erstwhile child actor has a long history of working in the southern region.
According to Peeping Moon, her role in Aditya Dhar’s film may be minor within the male-centric narrative, but the project signifies her shift into a lead heroine after years of being recognised as a child actress in both Hindi and Telugu cinema. They said:
“Although her role is said to be relatively small in this male-dominated story, this film (by Aditya Dhar) marks her transition to a lead heroine after years of being known as a child actress in Hindi and Telugu cinema.”
Netizens criticise casting of 39 years old, Ranveer Singh opposite of 19 years old, Sara Arjun
However, the news has not been well received by many fans, considering that Sara Arjun is 19 and Ranveer Singh is 39. Following the sharing of the news footage on Reddit, fans lambasted the filmmakers for casting these two actors together. “She was 5 years old when Band Baaja Baarat released,” wrote one, referring to Ranveer’s debut film from 2011. Another added, “Eww 39 year old romancing a teenager!?? How did they think this was ok.”
Fans defend Ranveer Singh, blame directors for age gap casting in Bollywood
However, many were quick to point out that the directors, not Ranveer, should be held accountable for this casting decision. “Ranveer didn’t choose her as heroine .. so no need to demonise him.” But by and large, the community lamented the prevalence of this large age gap in Bollywood pairs.
The production team has not confirmed or refuted Sara Arjun’s involvement in the movie, but there have been rumours that the teenage actress has been considering roles that would allow her to go from being a child actor to a mainstream heroine.
