Recently, actor, Rajesh Kumar talked about a startling occurrence that happened during filming for the 2001 television series, Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya, revealing how an eerie incident on the set left the entire cast and crew shaken. During a candid interview with Dainik Bhaskar, the actor recounted an incident in which he received an unexpectedly severe smack from veteran actor, Manohar Singh while filming a highly dramatic scene.
Rajesh Kumar’s nine-minute scene builds tension before a shocking climax
Rajesh Kumar claims that the sequence lasts almost nine minutes and has his character confronting his drunken father on TV. It was a scene that demanded intense emotions and left a lasting impression on both the actors and viewers. He said that he had consumed a tiny amount of brandy earlier in the day while he got ready for the scene. During the rehearsal, everything went smoothly. The moment became horrifying when it came time to roll the last take.

As the action peaked and Manohar Singh had to slap the renowned actor, Rajesh Kumar, he delivered it with such surprising force that the actor was caught off guard. The silence surrounding the scene intensified the weight of the moment, making it a truly unforgettable performance for both actors and viewers alike. He added:
“Manohar ji slapped me so hard that a strange sound lingered in my ears for quite some time. The shot was over and the whole crew kept quiet. I couldn’t help but think, why did he hit me so hard?”

Looking back on the incident, Rajesh Kumar noted that Manohar Singh apologised right away and proceeded to justify his actions. He claimed that the slap was intended to impart to him an important acting lesson, namely, that one should never rely on extraneous substances like alcohol to portray an inebriated character. In his words:
“He quickly hugged me and said, ‘I am sorry, you must be hurt, I just slapped to make you understand that never drink while acting’. Then we had a walk, and he told me about the 11 traits of an alcoholic. I think it stayed with me. I understood the seriousness of the craft.”
On the work front, Rajesh Kumar was last seen in the film, Binny and Family which was directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy. The movie also featured the actors, Pankaj Kapur, Anjini Dhawan, Charu Shankar, and Himani Shivpuri in pivotal roles. The movie received good reviews from the audience.
