Vikrant Massey reflects on the last few ‘remarkable’ years of his career
Vikrant Massey recently appeared at The Times Network India Economic Conclave, during which he discussed the massive success his films,12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report brought him after 12 years in the industry. Vikrant can be quoted as saying:
“As mentioned in that post, the last few years have been truly phenomenal. I probably reflect upon the year gone by with utmost humility and gratitude. I got much more than what I asked for. As an artiste, I have been working for the past 21 years professionally. But after 12th Fail, it has really been remarkable. Just to put things into context, I put out that post at midnight because I was not able to sleep.”
Vikrant Massey also discussed his latest project, The Sabarmati Report, stating that he was overwhelmed by the response the film received. The actor confessed that he had never imagined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his entire cabinet would watch his film at its special screening. Vikrant said that while his words might sound ‘borderline pompous,’ he was just being as honest as possible about his emotions.
Vikrant Massey says he is taking a break because he has reached a stage of ‘creative saturation’
Further in the conclave, Vikrant Massey addressed his shocking decision to take a break at the peak of his career. According to the actor, he felt he had reached a point of ‘creative saturation.’ Thus, he made the difficult decision after a discussion with his wife, Sheetal Thakur. Discussing the emotional and physical toll his career was taking on him, Vikrant said:
“I was on a call with my wife and we were chatting. Iss desh mai isse zyada koi kya hi kar sakta hai as an actor? 12th Fail got acclaim and now Sabarmati Report is also receiving so much love. Physically also, I am kind of exhausted. I have been doing non-stop work, I nearly shot 284 days last year out of 365 days, so there was creative saturation as well.”
Vikrant further revealed that his break had also been motivated by the honourable Prime Minister of the country watching a film so close to his heart. This remarkable feat motivated Vikrant to want to better himself as an actor, and the only way to do that would be to ‘take a break, recalibrate, and better’ himself. However, the actor believed that his post about this much-needed break was taken out of context because a lot of it was written in English.
Vikrant Massey opens up about his desire to try out direction and production in the future
Vikrant Massey also opened up about his career plans for the future, revealing his desire to step into the shoes of a director and producer. The actor stated that he didn’t want to discuss these plans too much as now was not the right time. Revealing that at the moment, his full focus was on his growing son, Vikrant said:
“There is one film I am doing next year and my entire focus is on that film. I am doing the film as an actor by the end of next year. I also want to direct and produce but it’s not the right time to talk about it publicly. My entire focus is on watching my son grow, to take that necessary break, to write more, and look after my health a little more. There is no problem as such, but health could be better. I haven’t slept for more than 4-5 hours for so many years, so I want to do that.”
