People Wanted Me To Fail

New Delhi:

After a string of box office failures, Arjun Kapoor got his first blockbuster release in years with Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again. The actor garnered praise for his menacing role as Danger Lanka in the movie.
Now, Arjun has finally broken his silence on the relentless trolling he’s faced over his surname and film choices. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about the harsh criticism he’s received, revealing that people wanted him to fail.

“I felt very happy when Rohit sir told me that people were now talking about me and recognising my ownership of the film. It was a graceful moment because, for a long time, people wanted me to fail.

By people, I mean those who are slightly critical, clickbaity, and prone to trolling—they saw me as an easy target,” he said in a chat with Raj Shamani.

Arjun Kapoor added that a “lot of reactions” were based on his “surname, personal life” and a few box office failures. “The perception was that I didn’t like working, didn’t care about my work, wasn’t interested in improving, and didn’t deserve to be an actor.

This sentiment was amplified by the physical struggles I faced during a significant period in my career, which stemmed from health issues I only recently spoke about. I understood how this narrative made it easy for people to throw darts at me,” he said.

Recalling a particular harsh review of his film Kuttey, Arjun Kapoor revealed it felt like a “personal attack” on his being. “I respect reviews, but I don’t respect personal attacks,” the actor said highlighting the importance of constructive criticism while avoiding unwarranted negativity.

Aside from Arjun Kapoor, Singham Again features Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Jackie Shroff in key roles. It is the third film in the Singham series and the fifth installment of Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe franchise.
