Sunil Dutt was an Indian actor, film producer, director and politician. He was married to the iconic actress of the ’50s, Nargis Dutt, and they shared three beautiful children together, including the spectacular actor, Sanjay Dutt and politician and social worker, Priya Dutt Roncon. Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir recalls the time when Sunil Dutt refrained her from interacting with everyone
Veteran actor, Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir recently revealed how she was introduced to the method acting technique by the legendary actor and filmmaker, Sunil Dutt. The actress recalled that Sunil had introduced her to method acting during her debut Hindi film, Yeh Aag Kab Bujhegi. The actress, Sheeba, recently sat for a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, during which she revealed how Sunil Dutt taught her method acting.
She shared that Sunil had barred her from meeting any cast member and had told her to sit and cry all day to intensify the emotions of her character in the film. For the unversed, Sunil Dutt not only directed but was also seen playing the lead role in the film alongside Rekha. The film’s music and lyrics were composed by the renowned Ravindra Jain. Sheeba shared about her experience and was quoted saying:
“I did method acting in my first film. While shooting the climax, they were pouring kerosene on me to burn me alive for dowry. Before filming the scene, Dutt Sahab didn’t let me speak to my co-stars or even my staff. He told me, ‘Sit in a corner and cry all day because you are getting burnt, and I want you in that frame of mind.’ So, Dutt Sahab taught me method acting. Staying immersed in the character’s mood and not stepping out of it. At that time, we didn’t even have phones to distract us. Since that day, I’ve never used glycerine for crying scenes.”
Sheeba revealed that Sunil Dutt was upset when she signed another film while doing Yeh Aag Kab Bhujegi
Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir shared another instance involving Sunil Dutt and the film Ye Kab Bujhegi Aag during an earlier interview. She recalled that Sunil was extremely upset with her when she signed Athisaya Piravi, which featured the south superstar, Rajnikanth, while still working on Yeh Aag Kab Bujhegi. She revealed that Sunil was not in favour of her working on another project at the same time as his film, especially one with a superstar like Rajinikanth. Talking about the reason for the same, she added it was because he wanted Yeh Aag Kab Bujhegi to release first and not be overshadowed by the Rajinikanth-starrer.

Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir was last seen on the big screen in the role of ‘Mona Sen’ alongside Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the 2023 hit film, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The actress was seen before in Hum Baja Bajaa Denge in 2015 alongside Sanam Bakshi and Jackie Shroff. In 2024, the actress portrayed the role of ‘Pammi Sood’ in the daily soap, Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si.
