Laurene Powell Jobs, businesswoman, philanthropist, and widow of the late Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, is known for being a devoted follower of Swami Kailashanand Giri. Laurene Powell Jobs visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the company of her guru and spiritual leader, Swami Kailashanand Giri of Niranjani Akhara. The philanthropist and businesswoman donned a salwar suit in hues of peach and yellow with a Rakshasutra on her arm and a Rudraksha mala around her neck as she graced a warm welcome at the camp.
As per an ANI report, Laurene had been welcomed with a lot of fanfare. She was even served hot masala chai in a traditional kulhad. Laurene’s visit displayed deep-rooted reverence and obedience to Indian culture and traditions. She indulged in prayers for the hassle-free completion of the much-anticipated Maha Kumbh Mela. Laurene gracefully wore a dupatta on her head as she offered her prayers.
Swami Kailashanand Giri calls Laurene Powell Jobs a ‘daughter’ and reveals why she couldn’t touch the Shivling
Swami Kailashanand Giri took a moment to speak to the media outside the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and referred to Laurene Powell Jobs as a ‘daughter.’ He also praised her profound respect for Indian spirituality, calling her ‘very religious and spiritual.’ Swami Kailashanand Giri added that Laurene was keen to learn more about Indian traditions, saying:
“She wants to learn about our traditions and respects me as a father and Guru. Indian traditions are being accepted by the world.”
Swami Kailashanand Giri further clarified why Laurene was not allowed to touch the Shivling despite being a devoted follower. It had to do with the temple’s stringent protocols, which Laurene was committed to following every step of the way. Swami Kailashanand Giri explained:
“Non-Hindus cannot touch the Shivling, and she saw it from outside. Traditions must be maintained.”
Laurene will take part in the Maha Kumbh Mela, as confirmed by Swami Kailashanand Giri. Swami Kailashanand Giri also revealed that she would take a sacred dip in the Ganga.

Swami Kailashanand Giri further revealed that this period marks an important phase for Indian spirituality as the Akhara are gearing up to appoint their first Mahamandaleshwar from the USA. The title will be bestowed on Maharshi Vyasanand, taking Indian spirituality to a global level. Expressing his gratitude for the honour, Maharishi Vyasanand said:
“I am honored to represent the Shankaracharya Parampara to the world.”
Speaking about the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, it is set to host 45 crore devotees in Pragyaraj. The key bathing dates for the auspicious event, which is held every 12 years, are January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami). Among India’s 12 Jyotirlingas, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple has seen a rapid growth in devotees ever since the Kashi Vishwanath Dham was inaugurated in December 2021. Laurene Powell Jobs’ visit to the sacred site is evidence of that and the exponential spread of Indian spirituality.
