Aamir Ali is a well-known name in the Indian television industry. In a recent interview, he got candid about his childhood trauma and revealed a harrowing experience from his teenage. The actor stressed how trauma can alter one’s habits and nature and shared how the experience impacted him as a child.
Aamir Ali recalled being sexually harassed
Aamir Ali recently sat for an interview with Hauterrfly, where he discussed several topics under the sun. The actor opened up about a horrible incident that took place when he was an adolescent. He recalled that he was sexually harassed when he was 14 years old. He revealed that he was travelling on a train when the incident took place.
He added that the experience was immensely traumatising, so much so that it permanently altered his travel habits. In the same conversation, Aamir Ali was asked about his homosexual friends, the actor confessed that while he had some reservations in the beginning, he was good now. He further recalled the incident that took place when he was only a young boy.
Aamir Ali shared that he was 14 years old when a horrible incident took place. He added that he was travelling via train for the first time he was touched by strangers in inappropriate areas. He mentioned how he had started carrying his bag closer to protect himself, but one day someone stole his books from his bag. He revealed that was when he decided he wouldn’t travel by train again. He stated:
“When you are young and the first time I travelled in a train…The reason I stopped travelling in trains was because I was being touched. I was 14. Then I started holding my bag closer to my backside, near my bum. Then, one day, someone stole books from my bag, and I was like, ‘Who steals books?’ And I decided I won’t travel in a train.”
Aamir Ali on his friends’ homosexuality and his reservations
In the same conversation, Aamir Ali recalled that the incident scarred him. However, when his friends came out with their sexual orientations, he realised that he couldn’t judge everyone with the same lens. While what happened to him was unfortunate, he felt that his friends were not like them as he considered them his brothers. He added that he could sleep beside them in the same bed and feel safe, so it would be unfair to judge the whole world based on some experience. He was quoted as saying:
“Then, I had a couple of friends who came out in the open and said that they have feelings for a man, and I know them so well. They are like my brothers. I can sleep with them on the same bed. When they came out, I felt like just because of a couple of experiences, I couldn’t judge the whole world. When you mature, you understand, your thoughts change.”
