Abhishek Banerjee has had a stellar 2024, with a blockbuster like Stree 2 shattering box-office records. His other two releases were Vedaa, and Mr and Mrs Mahi.
The actor spoke to SCREEN recently, and shed light on important topics such as his experience with stardom, being a casting director, and more.
In one of the segments, he made a fun revelation about his Bhediya co-star Varun Dhawan, calling him extremely naughty.
Speaking of an incident that had taken place once, he said, “We were shooting for Bhediya and he just happened to ask me who my crush was among actresses. We were sitting in a car and couldn’t get out because there were cameras on both sides. He kept asking, so I said, Kiara Advani.”
Recalling the impulsive reaction to it, he shared, “The next thing I knew, he called her and told her I had a crush on her. It was so embarrassing, but she was sweet enough not to mind it. That’s when I realized that I could not tell him anything.”
Banerjee laughed and added, “He has a dialogue ‘Dikhta hu main sweet innocent swami type ka…’, he is that in real life.”
Considering Stree 2 was one of the biggest hits of last year, the actor expressed deep gratitude.
Speaking about the achievement, he said, “It felt like the backbenchers were toppers suddenly. None of us expected it to be a mammoth success.”
He added, “We knew we had created something that would be impressive, but we did not know it would be an all-time blockbuster. By the second or third day, we broke records. We were having dinner and celebrating, but it didn’t sink in till very late that we were a part of history. It has added a lot of value to our work and also added a lot of responsibility.”
Abhishek Banerjee has been an integral part of Maddock’s horror-comedy universe, playing his iconic character Jana in Stree 2, Bhediya, and Munjya.
Stree 2 was released on August 15, 2024. It had Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana in leading roles.
