For all Amitabh Bachchan fans, we have great news. The megastar’s popular Bhoothnath series is making a comeback with a third instalment. In the first two films, Big B won hearts as a lovable ghost. Now, Bhoothnath 3 is reportedly in the works, with T-Series and BR Films teaming up for the project. “Bhoothnath 3 is in the development stage at the moment, and the producers are toying with the idea of bringing Bhoothnath back to the spectacle. If everything goes as planned, Bhoothnath 3 will go on floors in 2025, for a 2026 release. The script work has begun and the makers are happy with the germ that they have for Bhoothnath 3,” a source close to the project shared with Pinkvilla.
The insider further mentioned that casting for Bhoothnath 3 is still in progress, but the makers hope to bring back both Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, as seen in the first two films. “While part one and two had a cameo of Shah Rukh Khan, the makers are aiming at bigger goals for the third instalment, though everything will boil down to the script eventually. It’s too early in the day to discuss casting, as the makers are presently focusing on getting the script right. A director will be associated once the script is locked,” the source added.
The source also highlighted that the Bhoothnath franchise centres on a lovable ghost who returns with a purpose – a unique plot element that sets the series apart from other horror-comedy projects. “What separates Bhoothnath from all other horror comedies is the fact that the ghost in Bhoothnath is lovable and comes back for a personal reason. The idea is to create a franchise where the part of the ghost is loved by one and all, especially the kids,” the source concluded.
The first Bhoothnath movie, directed by Vivek Sharma, was released in 2008. Headlined by Amitabh Bachchan, the movie featured an extended cameo by Shah Rukh Khan. Juhi Chawla, Rajpal Yadav and Aman Siddiqui were also part of this project. After a six-year gap, the franchise returned with Bhoothnath Returns, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. This instalment also featured Amitabh Bachchan, with Shah Rukh Khan again making an extended cameo. Ranbir Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap also made guest appearances in the film.
