Asha Bhosle and her late sister, Lata Mangeshkar, have ruled the Hindi cinema for many decades. At the age of 90, Asha Bhosle shocked the world by performing live in a concert. While fans love her jinda-dilli, not many know that there was a time when she was rumoured to have ruined Anuradha Paudwal’s career. 

For those who don’t know, Anuradha Paudwal was a famous singer in Hindi cinema in the ’80s and ’90s. However, she all of a sudden disappeared from the film industry and changed her career path. Many blame it on Asha Bhosle and call it a conspiracy, but we know the truth.

Who is Anuradha Paudwal?

For the unversed, Arun Paudwal, who is the husband of Anuradha Paudwal, was a famous composer in the office of music composer SD Burman. Her real name is Alka Nadkarni and in 1969, when she got married to Arun Paudwal, she changed her name as per her husband’s wish. 

Anuradha Paudwal’s journey into singing 

Arun Paudwal wanted his wife, Anuradha Paudwal to sing in films as he knew about her singing talent. So, he introduced her to SD Burman. She got her first break with a song Sanskrit song in the 1973 film, Abhimaan. After this, she got many offers and sang for Marathi films for many years. Anuradha Paudwal’s song, Tu Mera Jaanu Hai gave her instant recognition, and people started loving her voice.

Back in those days, everyone suffered jealousy, and it was a known fact that Hindi cinema was ruled by the sister duo, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar. According to a report by ABP News, Asha Bhosle went to SD Burman’s office for recordings, and when she saw Arun Paudwal, she scolded him over something and asked security to send him out. Later, it was revealed that Asha Bhosle wasn’t happy with the fact that Arun launched his wife, Anuradha, in the film industry. However, it is worth mentioning that no clear statement has even come out. 

Anuradha Paudwal often hinted that she recorded the songs which Asha Bhosle sang, but she was replaced 

Anuradha Paudwal always considered the late Lata Mangeshkar as her Guru. Hence, she never talked about her openly in the interviews. However, she often hinted that she had recorded the songs that Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle had sung, but she had been replaced. However, no official proof of the same was ever found. 

Anuradha Paudwal left the Hindi film industry after her husband’s death

During the ’90s, Anuradha Paudwal gave many hit songs, and it was Gulshan Kumar who supported her, and she gave her voice to many songs for his films. However, in 1991, when Anuradha Paudwal’s husband, Arun Paudwal, passed away in an accident, she was shattered. However, by 2000, Anuradha Paudwal decided to leave film industry and started singing devotional songs. She never shared this side of her life’s story and always respected Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
