Many renowned personalities passed away in 2024, but it’s fair to say that Indian billionaire, Ratan Tata’s demise shattered the entire country. It was a personal loss for almost every Indian, courtesy of Ratan Tata’s contribution to nation-building, philanthropic activities, and inspiring career. It was on October 9, 2024, when Ratan Tata passed away at the age of 86 due to age-related issues at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

On January 9, 2024, the iconic Indian classical musician, Ustad Rashid Khan passed away in Kolkata. The unfortunate demise of the Padma Bhushan awardee at the age of 55 shocked everyone to the core. For the uninitiated, Ustad Rashid Khan was fighting against cancer for some time before finally losing the battle to a life-threatening disease in a private hospital in Kolkata. It was a major setback for India’s classical music fraternity, which lost one of its brightest gems.

Days before the end of 2024, the former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, bid farewell to everyone on December 26, 2024. India’s 13th PM passed away at the age of 92, and as per multiple reports, the reason behind his death was old age-related health problems. The esteemed politician passed away at AIIMS Delhi, where he was admitted after his health started deteriorating.

The legendary ghazal singer, Pankaj Udhas, died on February 26, 2024, leaving a lasting legacy of soulful Bollywood tracks and timeless ghazals for everyone. The singer breathed his last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital and died of a prolonged illness at the age of 72. Another reason why Pankaj Udhas’ demise broke people so much is that he was one of the last ghazal maestros left in our country.

The Indian fashion fraternity came to a halt on the auspicious festival of Diwali when news of ace designer, Rohit Bal’s death flashed on our feeds. The iconic fashion designer died on November 1, 2024, in a hospital in South Delhi due to a heart condition. Rohit Bal passed away at the age of 63, but there’s no doubt in saying that his legacy will continue to shine for generations to come.

One of the biggest names in Indian politics, Sitaram Yechury, passed away on September 12, 2024, due to severe symptoms of pneumonia-like chest infection. The Marxist politician was the General Secretary of the Columnist Party of India. He was a tall figure in Andhra Pradesh politics and served as a Member of Parliament(Rajya Sabha) from August 2005 to August 2017. It was a major setback for Indian politics to lose such a renowned politician at the age of 72.

India’s oldest living Test cricketer, Datta Gaekwad, hanged his bat and gloves on February 13, 2024. The legendary cricketer passed away at the age of 95 at his Baroda residence due to old age-related health problems. On June 8, 2024, Indian businessman, Ramoji Rao passed away at the age of 87. The renowned businessman died of cardiovascular disease and was cremated with state honours at Ramoji Film City.

One of the most loved Indian musicians ever, Zakir Hussain, passed away on December 15, 2024, at the age of 73 due to some severe complications of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a lung disease. It was heartbreaking news for every single Indian because Zakir Hussain was the greatest tabla player of his era who inspired so many generations.
