Shah Rukh Khan is one of the most celebrated actors in Bollywood. Shah Rukh had the love of his life, Gauri Khan, in his corner even before he started his journey as an actor. But even though the saying goes that behind every successful man is a woman, in Shah Rukh and Gauri’s case, things were seemingly a little different. We recently stumbled upon a Reddit post that quoted Gauri as saying she had never prayed for her husband’s success in films!
Gauri Khan reveals she never prayed for Shah Rukh Khan’s success in Bollywood, but her family did
Recently, we stumbled upon a Reddit post revealing that Gauri Khan had never prayed for her husband, Shah Rukh Khan, to succeed in Bollywood. However, her family, although initially opposed to his desire to join the industry, always prayed that his films would do well. Talking about how she had never enjoyed his initial success, Gauri said:
“And I was not really interested in him doing films… which was why I never enjoyed his initial success. Surprisingly, my family, who was more against him joining films, began to get involved in his career like never before. They prayed that his films did well and they watched all his films. I, on the contrary, never hoped and prayed that he did well. My involvement in his career was zero.”
Gauri then added that it was only after nine years of Shah Rukh being in the industry that she had become more aware of what he was doing and how his films performed. She lauded the credit for the same on her ‘great set of friends’ who were far more connected to films than her. However, over time, Gauri had also come to understand just how much films meant to Shah Rukh. She further added that Shah Rukh had never been satisfied with just acting. The star had always wanted to be technically involved with films, too, a feat he has successfully accomplished in the many years since.

Not only did Gauri Khan not pray for Shah Rukh Khan’s success, but she actively hoped his films would flop. This hope stemmed from Gauri’s discomfort in Mumbai. She revealed that she found it very difficult to adjust to the city in the early years of her marriage, and Shah Rukh promised her that they would return to Delhi if she couldn’t come to terms with the city. Gauri said:
“I kept wishing that all his films flopped and we went back to Delhi. I didn’t care whether his ‘Deewana’ or ‘Baazigar’ did well. I didn’t see his movies. Till date, I haven’t seen all his films. If he has done about 25-30 films, I must have seen only half of them. I had no interest at all in what he was doing.”

Gauri Khan also revealed that with her husband, Shah Rukh Khan’s increasing popularity, film offers had started coming her way, too. However, she always knew that acting wasn’t the right path for her. Wanting to stay true to herself, Gauri turned down the offers. She can be quoted as saying:
“I got a few film offers but it was so silly that just because your husband is into films, you automatically get acting offers. It made no sense at all. Just because you have the opportunity, you can’t do something you’re not inclined towards. And Shahrukh would never let me act in any case. He is too possessive of me. He would rather die a million deaths than let me act or do even a small role in films.”
