“Agar jo aap kartey ho usmey aapko aanand hai toh vo work-life balance hai. Your work-life balance should not be imposed on me, and my work-life balance shouldn’t be imposed on you. Aapko khali itna hi dekhna hai, if I spend four hours with my family and find joy in it or if someone else spends eight hours and enjoys it, that’s their balance. Aur koi aath ghanta bitaiga toh biwi bhaag jayegi.”

Gautam Adani’s views on work-life balance come after Infosys founder, NR Narayana Murthy started the debate in 2023

Gautam Adani’s views on work-life balance follow Infosys founder, NR Narayana Murthy’s statement on the matter. Narayana’s comment stirred a nationwide debate in 2023 after he advocated for a 70-hour work week, which would mean every individual works for 11 hours 6 days a week to meet the criteria. According to the Infosys founder, such dedication is vital for India to compete with advanced economies. He used his personal experience to back his statement and stated:

“I used to work 85-90 hours a week till I retired. I received a scholarship from my pre-university days in 1961, and many of my peers benefited from government-subsidised education. Those of us who have reaped such benefits owe it to the country to work hard for the betterment of society. I don’t regret it. Hard work is an enormous responsibility for those of us who have been privileged by the system.”
