Atul Subhash, the 34-year-old AI engineer’s death, has sent shockwaves in the entire nation. It is also a story of many men and their families in India who are facing false cases filed against them by the girl and their families. The laws, which were made to protect women after marriage, have become the prime reason for ruining the happiness of the men and their families. And Atul was the victim of the same. Read on to know the potential reason why he ended his life.

Atul Subhash’s half of salary was given to his well-settled wife, Nikita Singhania

Atul Subhash’s drastic step has rekindled the debate across the country about the pressure and humiliation a man has to go through under the dowry act, which is being misused against the boy’s family. The lawyer Dinesh Mishra, who represented Atul Subhash in the family court, said that he presented a truthful account of his experience with the justice system.

The lawyer shared that the judge was not behind Atul’s death. The 34-year-old Bengaluru techie earned approximately around Rs. 84,000 monthly. It was in July 2024, the Family Court of Jaunpur ordered him to pay Rs. 40,000 maintenance for their son. The lawyer clearly stated that the amount was for the child’s welfare and not for the well-settled wife. Lawyer was quoted as saying:

“Atul probably thought this Rs 40,000 was too much. If he felt this amount was excessive, he should have gone to the High Court to challenge it.”

Let us inform you that filing a case in the High Court to challenge the family court decision is not easy. The lawyers take a lot of money to file the case. It is a vicious circle that people often get stuck in. And Atul Subhash dealt with the same. The humiliation from his wife and her family to being dragged into court for a crime he had never committed was way too much to deal with.

Atul Subhash was left with Rs. 44,000 remaining for each mother for his and his family’s living expenses, including rent in Bengaluru, and giving fees to lawyers for attending case dates in the court. The pressure is too much to deal with. On the other hand, the lawyer claimed that the justice system cannot be held responsible for a person’s suicide. He claimed that there was no error or wrong-doing caused by the court.

Meanwhile, Atul Subhash’s brother pleaded for justice in the matter. He stated that he wanted the Indian marital laws to be changed to prevent such incidents. He also added that families should be given proper legal guidance to avoid drastic steps like suicide.
