Aamir Khan’s nephew, Imran Khan, has been away from the Bollywood industry for the longest time. His last work was with Kangana Ranaut in Katti Batti. On the other side, his uncle, Aamir Khan, has been in the industry for four decades and recently produced Laapataa Ladies. Aamir has done movies like Laal Singh Chaddha, Thugs of Hindostan, Secret Superstar, and Dangal, to name a few. However, Imran feels that his filmography in the ’90s did not do well and spoke about how Raja Hindustani movie had issues.

During a recent interview with Filmfare, Imran opened up about the influence of Aamir Khan on his professional and personal life. He also shared that he was not pleased with all the movies of Aamir, especially from the 1990s. Aamir has been dominating the entertainment industry for 40 years. Imran shared he did like many of his uncle’s movies but there were a few he found problematic. In his words:
“You know, there are some of his 90s films that have not aged well, and when you look at them through a modern lens, they are kind of problematic. There are moments that are quite uncomfortable. Raja Hindustani, which was a staggering hit, is very uncomfortable to watch. You look at it and you go, ‘This is wrong; we are not supposed to,’ so there are a fair amount of 90s films that are uncomfortable by today’s measures.”
Imran Khan shares honest views of not liking Aamir Khan’s films
Imran was honest to confess that he did not like many of Aamir’s movies from the ’90s. He shared that the storyline was problematic despite being a box-office hit. He felt that by today’s standard, there have been many scenes in the movies that have made Imran feel uncomfortable and inappropriate. He felt that by today’s standards, Aamir’s movies from the ’90s may not be relatable. For the unversed, Dharmesh Darshan directed Raja Hindustani had Karisma Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi, Johnny Lever, Farida Jalal, Navneet Nishan, and Mohnish Behl apart from Aamir.

Going ahead in the interview, Imran shared that due to Aamir’s guidance, he has been led by the great actor. Imran shared that through life, whenever he faced a dilemma he thought about what his mamu would do. He may not exactly approach it in the same way as him. It is interesting to note that Aamir has produced many movies of Imran under his production banner. Films like Delhi Belly, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na have been produced by Aamir. Imran shared:
“A lot of our methodologies and beliefs are different, but at its core, he has always been driven by integrity and authenticity. Your guiding principle must come from what is morally justifiable and then what is the most truthful and most authentic way that we can render this story. Those are kind of the core guiding principles which I have learnt from him, which I still adhere to.”
