What is Godhuma Raayi Pasupu danchatam, which Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya recently celebrated?
Godhuma Raayi Pasupu danchatam, is a Telugu pre-wedding ritual, which signifies the beginning of the wedding soiree. The literal meaning of Godhuma is wheat, while Raayi means stones. On the other hand, Pasupu means haldi, and danchatam signifies crushing. On this auspicious day, the entire home of the bride and groom gets decorated with banana leaves and mango leaves along with flowers, and it begins with a Ganesh puja at the couple’s respective homes. The festivity first begins in the groom’s home, followed by the bride’s, and a whole lot of guests are invited.
The women of the house, mainly the mother of the groom, offer Thamboolam and coconut to a mortar and pestle, which, later, five other married women use to grind the turmeric until it turns to a fine powder. This powder is later used in the couple’s haldi ceremony and other wedding festivities, wherein it would be needed. Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala’s wedding date is yet to be announced but it seems close as they have already kickstarted the same.
