Legendary late actor and filmmaker, Manoj Kumar was lovingly called ‘Bharat Kumar’. In a piece of tragic news, the Roti Kapda Aur Makaan star passed away on April 4, 2025, at 3.30 am at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. His heartbroken son, Kunal Goswami, gathered himself up and spoke in front of the media, stating about his dad’s demise. He shared he had been unwell for a long time but fought every obstacle. Kunal also shared Manoj’s antim visarjan, a.k.a cremation details of his dad. Kunal also shared that his father was close to his grandchildren.

Manoj Kumar’s demise has left a hollow void in the hearts of his fans and in the entire nation. The actor was known for his patriotic movies and for his art of storytelling. Manoj’s son, Kunal, in an interview with the ANI, shared that his dad had been unwell for a long time and with the blessings of Shirdi Sai Baba, he left the world for his heavenly abode. Kunal also shared that Manoj was extremely close to his grandchildren and said:

“Kal subah unka cremeation hoga. Aap sab logo ka dhanyawadh. Bimari unki kaafi saalo se chal rahi thi. Abhi woh 2 mahine mei 88 years ke hone wale thei. 87 mei woh swargvas huei hai. Sabse hi baat karte thei. Basically apne poto se, joh unke chote naate thei sabse karte thei aur bade khush thei. Bass thodi takleef mei thei kyuki aswasth thei aur thodi takleefe thi.”

Manoj Kumar’s versatile movies

It was in the 1960s when Manoj got into stardom all because of the kind of patriotic films he used to do. The movies of the actor stirred pride-based emotions in the nation, and he was known for his work in Shaheed (1965), Upkar (1967), Purab Aur Paschim (1970), and Kranti (1981). The late actor got a name and place in the hearts of Indian cine lovers. Manoj’s directorial venture was Upkar, inspired by Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri’s iconic slogan, ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’. The actor won the Filmfare Award for Best Director and also created his mark as a known filmmaker.

Manoj’s versatility in movies extended beyond the themes of patriotism. He rose with social, romantic dramas in movies like Woh Kaun Thi? (1964), Himalay Ki God Mein (1965), and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974). Manoj’s movies used to address the problems that the common man faced. His movies spoke about the responsibility of people towards society and also spoke about India’s varied culture.

Manoj Kumar had won Dadasaheb Phalke Award 

In 2015, Manoj Kumar was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his lifelong contribution to Hindi cinema. He knew the art of blending cinema with storytelling that had meaningful messages and left behind a legacy for directors and stars whom Manoj’s craft could inspire. The nation has lost a ratan today, on April 4, 2025.
