Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, who met on the Naanum Rowdy Dhaan sets in 2014, are the poster couple for love at first sight. The couple started dating soon after working on the film and dated for many years before finally getting hitched in 2022. And let’s just say their lavish wedding was the kind most of us can only dream of having. Nayanthara and Vignesh were quick to share the gorgeous pictures from their wedding. However, it is only now that they have opened up about the chaos that went into planning for the grand occasion. Nayanthara’s documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale , dishes on the details.
Nayanthara reveals wanting to tie the knot at Tirupati Tirumala temple after changing her religion
Nayanthara’s eponymous documentary revealed that her grand wedding at Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort and Spa in Mahabalipuram was planned in just ten days. The time crunch resulted from their original plan not working out because of logistical issues. Initially, Nayanthara planned to marry Vignesh in Tirupati Tirumala temple as she wanted a typical Hindu wedding, having changed her religion.
For the unversed, Nayanthara was born Diana Kurien. However, the Lady Superstar changed her name when she opted for a career in films. Eventually, Nayanthara changed her religion from Christianity to Hinduism in 2011. Talking about her desire to have a Hindu wedding, Nayanthara said:
“Because I am a born Christian, my mom always wanted to see me in that Christian attire –the wedding gown kind of a thing. But, since I have become a Hindu, and we have to do a Hindu wedding, I just thought it should be like a beautiful mix of both a Hindu and a Christian wedding. So we kept it a Hindu wedding with an English touch.”
Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan’s wedding was planned in 10 days and had 7000 people working on it.
The team behind Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan’s dreamy wedding was Shaadi Squad. They have a roster of celebrity weddings to their name, like Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas, Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma, and Katrina Kaif-Vicky Kaushal. In Nayanthara’s documentary, Tina and Saurabh of Shaadi Squad revealed that they decided to change the venue but not the date when their Tirupati plans fell through. They further elaborated:
“There were about 7,000 people working overnight. On the wedding day, about 200 security personnel were hired for just manning the structure. Nobody’s phone was allowed at the venue.”
Nayanthara added that she had been unsure whether they would be able to pull off the wedding at all. To her, putting together such a grand wedding in just 10 days had seemed ‘quite impossible.’
Nayanthara was so busy with wedding planning that her loved ones had to force her to have fun
Nayanthara also talked about being so engrossed with wedding planning that she wasn’t ready to have fun at her own wedding. She was so busy ensuring everything was perfect for the D-day that she didn’t plan any pre-wedding festivities. Ultimately, it was her family, friends, and Vignesh who forced her to have fun by organizing an impromptu mehendi ceremony one night before the wedding. Nayanthara said:
“Until the wedding day, I was only checking, and organizing things around my wedding, but it was after they put my wedding veil, a wave of emotion hit me so hard that I couldn’t even breathe.”
