Filmmaker Sukumar’s Pushpa 2: The Rule has been in the news ever since it was announced at the end of the first film Pushpa: The Rise, which was released in December 2021. Hence, the second film in the franchise was expected to open well. But Pushpa 2 has done much more than that as it has literally taken the box office by storm, going by its enormous opening of Rs. 72 crores in the Hindi version itself.
What the film has also achieved is that it has also become the highest non-holiday and non-festival opener ever in Hindi. This speaks volumes about the ‘wildfire’ effect the movie has had at the box office.
Before Pushpa 2, the highest non-holiday and non-festival opener was Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Ranbir Kapoor starer Animal with Rs. 55 crores. When it comes to the highest holiday opener, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan holds the record with Rs. 66 crores. It was also the highest Hindi opener ever. But, as we know, the record is now taken over by Pushpa 2 by earning Rs. 72 crores on its opening day.
