Rocky’s Viewings (updated) | SATYAMSHOT

Sikandar has been watched , and Sallu Bhai is back and is in full form here. The plot line, the settings and Sallu Bhai kee angrezi is all new.

He looks fresh and younger . But beard kuch jyada hee black dye kar dee.

Rashmika is just OK here , The lip sync on the song – ” shayad iss janam mein phir mulakat ho na ho” in the trailer itself looked odd, on the big screen it is even more glaring. They should have played the song on the Turn table with Rashmika singing along.

The kid who plays the role of Kamaruddin is a natural born actor. Too good.

The dub on the main villain’s voice is so obvious. Kya yaar.

Towards the end the call placed by Sallu Bhai to some higher up in Delhi in Gujrati is iconic. maza aagaya .

I feel the trailer did not do justice to the film. The film is much much better than the trailer .

I think the portions cut are of the girl with the heart transplant .( I could be wrong )

The songs also sound so much better than in the random YouTube videos.

Tiger-3 and KKBKKJ debacle key baad Salman Khan is back !! The dialogs too are effective and seeti maar .

It might work on the BO .

********************************************************************************

Naadaniyan is a total bakwas, fake, pretentious except for two scenes, one between Khushi and her parents , and other between Ibrahim and his parents.

I think they should have made the movie in Hinglish . The students should have spoken in English with each other and in Hindi with their parents , and the movie could have worked. I felt both Ibrahim and Khushi were more stressed out trying to deliver the lines in a foreign language than actually emoting. The dialogs came across as rehearsed .

What was Khushi’s 18th birthday dress- she looked like a waitress, and then right after they show a stereo typical Bihari character as an Uber driver . Bhak saala !! Where did their wokianess go in that atrocious scene?

Although , I did enjoy the making fun of Nyoiddda !!lol

Dia Mirza is Ameeron kee Farida Jalal, and Khushi looked a bit like Mita Vashishth to me. Ibrahim has very limited set of expressions , although truth be told iss umar key boys do behave like this only.

APS was like WTF !!!!

BGM is so so so bad, Documentaries ka bhee itna sadela BGM naheen hota.

It seemed no one lived in a real house, No Mandir or Gurudwara in the any house , no shots of any house except the living room or the back yard. I am sure must have been the decision of the Wokias – let’s make it a G neutral film LOL !! It was , as if they were trying to show a La la land.

P.S.- However my wife liked it, so that is that , she noticed that Khushi was mostly wearing “Bobby” kay outfits !!!

***********************************************************************************

Chhaava last night . it deserves to be made Tax Free everywhere. Maza aa gaya.

Vicky Kaushal owned the role of Maratha warrior . Jaan daal dee role Mein. His entry scene was simply superb . His Dahaaad in the last 20 minutes were mesmerizing.

The other actor who impressed me the most was Vineet Kumar. The poetic exchange between him and Vicky towards the end – a full 3 minutes long gave me goosebumps. It reminded me of Manoj Kumar’s Shaheed where Bhagat Singh ,Rajguru and Sukhdev were chanting patriotic verses from their respective cells. Brilliant, brilliant brilliant.

I did not mind Rashmika’s accent at all, she looked so regal and so much like a Maharani, always encouraging Chhavva in his quest to destroy the Mughals.

five out of five for Akhshay Khanna’s makeup, too good. he has a phenomenal evil performance without yelling or trying to look scary.

ARR’s music was ok, but IMO he should have not sung the songs himself . If he would have had Sukhvinder or B Parak or Ajay- Atul sing the songs, the effect would have been 10 times more. The BGM whenever Chhaava came on screen, reminded e of the Singham BGM ( was not same but gave me the same vibes, don’t’ know why )

Ladies log in our group did not like the too much action ,blood and torture scenes. I however thought they were necessary to show the cruelty of the Mughals and the brilliant and innovative warfare techniques of the Marathas.

Our theatre was 95% full. I had to move our showtime by an hour, only the front seats were available, which we we purchased . The seats of the earlier show that I had let go , sold out in like 10 minutes when I rechecked.

The only negative that I noticed was the initial power struggle was not explained better, and people like us who do not know the exact detail were left a bit confused, and it also increased the run time of the movie.

I kept thinking of the brave Maratha warriors and their valor , and their sufferings to save the Dharma for a long time last night. Naman to them.

Har Har Har Har MahaDev !!!!
Forgot to add the weapons used by Chhaava are very important and symbolic .

He uses the Gada (Mace), the Trishul (Trident ) and the Bhala ( Spear).

Chaaa gaya Chhaava !!!

Saw Badass Ravi Kumar. It is good in parts. The songs are good.

But too much of everything becomes a headache. The funny thing is that when Himesh has to utter a dialog , he would look at the camera rather than address it to the character who he talking to.

In one scene he was drinking straight from the bottle, we could clearly make out it was the Glenfiddich bottle, but they pasted a white paper on the label. It was so obvious . Normally you try hide the label in a subtle way, similarly an airplane is all white with absolutely no logo.

It is at par with Pathan in terms of logic, story, screenplay and ode to the leading man. ( although unlike in Pathan at least here Ravi Kumar ke dialogs Dushman mulk ko bhee nahee chodtey, lol)

We were like 8 friends laughing, eating, drinking so did not mind much , but otherwise bhai Himesh- please stick to making music.

It was better than The Xpose , but that does not mean much.

***********************************************************

Sky Force is a solid entertainer with loads of Desh Prem told in a gripping way.

Akshay Kumar is in full form here, loved his performance .

IMO there was no need of Nimrat Kaur’s character , and the party song. All the other songs were too good . Final credits mein Jab Aye mere Watan key logo aata hai toh , one gets very emotional.

Veer comes across as an angry young man, he did not have much acting scope, toh theek thaak hai. Sara Ali Khan in a brief role excels ( like always).

IMO, Fighter and Sky Force cannot be compared . I liked Fighter a lot too. Sky Force is based on actual events and characters and therefore hits you more .

P.S.- Box Office will be down in certain parts of India and abroad for obvious reasons. and also efforts to put it down will be there too. It is therefore brave of the filmmakers to make this kind of a movie.

Mera Bharat Mahan. Jai Hind.

Despatch starring Manoj Bajpai .

Finally watched it . IMO the material was solid but the execution was so slow, painful, and boring that it has ZERO impact.

It seemed that the director was trying to showoff his technical skills and wanted to be as realistic as possible in the fist fights, chases and sex scenes , toh bhai documentary bana dey naa !!

Avoidable .
******************************************************************
Watched all the four parts of The Roshans.

Part 1- Senior Roshan: The best one by far, mainly because I was unaware of the so many amazing songs that Roshan Nagarth had composed . Hritik is acting even when he is speaking about his own family . TBH he reminded me of Rahul G, I don’t know why ? LOL The incident about Kedar Sharma sticking with Roshan even after the distributors were against him was very touching.

Part 2- Rajesh Roshan- This was the second best episode. Doosra Admi, Kala Pathhar, Yarana , kya hits hain outside of FilmKraft banner. His wife is totally Panjaban, very candid and down to earth. Her comments about her MIL were spicy and don’t know how they made it to the final cut. Rajesh ka and Yash Chopra ka kuch to lafda thaa, which was not elaborated much , but enough hints were there.

Part 3- Rakesh Roshan- Hats off to J Omprakash for deciding to marry his daughter to a struggling actor. Rakesh opened up to his failures, rejections and Humiliations, specially for a movie called Priyatama. SRK and Salman gave him a hard time during Karan Arjun was also mentioned. No mention of Krish 3 and Kanagana, LOL !! The enactment of the attack on him was kind of tacky .

Part 4- Hritik Roshan – Nothing new , same old praises from the industry people His fake act was pissing me off.

SRK and Abhishek both looked very good and are back in shape. ( Dhoom 4? ) SRK got maximum screen time after the family members.

I also hope they put the longer interviews of the actors, his friends, his relatives on YouTube .

Suzanne Khan was missing, his sons were shown but were not interviewed .

Strictly for Film buffs.
********************************************************************

Just back from watching Kangna Ranaut’s Emergency .

Kangana Ranaut looked, breathed and lived Indira Gandhi . Contrary to the name of the movie, the movie starts from her bachpan in Prayagraj, and then straight to her trip to Assam, ( I was actually not aware of her triumph in Assam)

Overall she is shown in a relatively pretty positive light. Most of the blame has been put on Sanjay Gandhi’s shoulders. Even otherwise Kangana has made an effort to be totally neutral .

Obviously there is so much material on Indira Gandhi, so some events are rushed through , everyone will have a feeling that this or that was omitted.

Second half mein ,I could feel that some scenes were chopped off. For example when she gets out of the jail, she tells R.K. Dhawan that she wants to go to the airport, but in the very next scene she is meeting JP.

Talpade as Atal Jee and Satish Kaushik as Babu Jagjivan Ram , and the actor who played Sanjay Gandhi are other actors who stand out.

The direction, the sets, the songs the dialogs and the screenplay are top class.

Overall, I would say there is no naachgaana in the movie, it is strictly for people who like serious cinema with an interest in Indian Politics and Indira Gandhi.

***************************************************************

Watched The Sabarmati Report . It is a really well made, superbly researched, good ( not great) production values movie. Vikrant and Ridhi are very good, Rashi Khanna does not have much to do.

The director does not let the movie get uninteresting or slow or documentary at any point of time.

Some of the dialogs and scenes are very brave, bold and well done. the cricket match scene is one such example ( although in the very next scene they do some monkey balancing , but itna to expected hee hai ) .

I loved the way they have merged some actual footage with the recently shot footage . The listing out of the names of the 59 dead is very poignant. The discriminations that the vernacular journalists (HMT) face over the English speaking Journalist has been captured very effectively.

The Negatives-

Production values are minimal, the court scenes could have been written a bit more professionally . The way Vikrant talks to the judge is just not possible in India. They could have avoided showing the Pictures of the current PM , then CM. It was IMO unnecessary . Everyone , anyways knows that truth. Why open the door for unnecessary criticism which could take away the real message of the film.

********************************************************************************

Watched BB-3 with very high expectations and I was totally disappointed with the screenplay, comedy and the songs.

Kartik, Madhuri and Vidya were good, but the script was so Phooohad . Sanjay Mishra, Rajpal Yadav and the lady actor were plain irritating. Bhabhi 2 was listless. sar Dard ho gaya. Balivenie bhee waste ho gai.

BB1 and BB2 were much better .

Modern Masters – S.S. Rajmauli was also a waste of time, literally nothing new, same old irritating giggles of Anupma, and her one mandatory woke question , in this case about the Prabhas and Tamanna scene in Bahubali. S.S. ka reply was pretty good.

*********************************************

Watched Pushpa 2 and Baby John.

I am so glad that I finally watched Pushpa 2 in the theatres. What a movie. Each segment is well crafted , enhanced by brilliant acting, BGM and writing. The long Kali Mata song and dance and the fight right after that is not easy to pull off, it had the risk of audience getting restless, but hats off to Sukumar for having the conviction and courage to go ahead with it. Uff !! the backdrop of Kali Maa in that sequence, and in the climax gave me goosebumps. Totally agree with Henry here.

Allu Arjun , kya actor hai, he is not bothered about his image at all, red nail polish, unkept clothes and hair ( even in the romantic songs), dance in the roop of Kaali Maa. Golf Clap Allu bhai.

Negatives- Songs were hopeless, except the Kaali Maa background song, the english subtitles were I think universal for all languages , so audio is Mr. Agarwal, but English subtitle is Mr. Kuppaswami , it really pissed me off, the product placement of Daawat Biryani and Kalyan Jewelers (Really?), and finally I did not get the point of opening sequence unless it will be used in Pushpa-3?

MILD SPOILER ALERT

You beat up , and shave head of a son of such a high profile person, and it does not make any news and you do not face any repercussions, until the son himself takes matters into his own hands ? yeh baat kuch hazam nahee hui.

Baby John– Maha Bakwaas, nothing new, no freshness, ghisa pita- plot, action, songs and villain . Time waste !!

*********************************************************************

Saw Vanvaas last weekend.

I really wanted to like it , but it did not work for me mainly because of Utkarsh and Simran.

Nana was really good, but the movie needed a better plot and more seasoned actors to support Nana.

The plot also needed to be a bit more realistic and convincing. The climax scene was subtle and brilliant though.

*****************************************************************

Khufia : I liked it a lot. The good thing was that it was not boring or give a feeling of stretched ( except maybe Tabu and her son’s scenes) .
Wamiqa after Jubilee , Charlie Chopra and now Khufia is emerging to be a Top class actor. Her solo dance performance in a Bikini ney dil jeet liya , by god kee kasam, kya curves hain.

the actor who played the mother is just too good, what a find. The BGM is very effective. I am so glad that unlike in Charlie Chopra VB did not recruit anyone from Naseer khandaan.
Overall, I was able to finish it in one setting with some single malt. Ending was satisfying, no artsy – woke type jhamela in this movie for a change.

Will add that the actor who played the role of mother will win several awards, I think Wamiqa should too. Tabu as cigarette smoking Raaaa agent is extremely effective. The movie has been funded by Government of Alberta. Recent events in Kanaddda have an uncanny resemblance to the event shown in the climax of the movie, i.e. if you swap Khalistani with Bangladeshi .

*******************************************************************

Watched Jawan last night.
MAY CONTAIN SOME SPOLERS , BUT NOT REALLY !!!!!

Except for the scenes when Papa SRK is around this movie is only for SRK fans. Not one single memorable song or dialogue.
The just before pre interval scene is really good and gave me vibes of Kamal Hasan’s Indian.
SRK looks old and tired in the pre interval portions, the bald look makes him look cartoonish. I was getting irritated by his mannerisms.

The action scenes are good except for in the climax. and look similar to Jailer, a movie I just watched on Prime. Both are Jailers …lol

The father son theme is now in Gadar-2, Jailer , Vikram and Jawan. Just as how the Gadar -2 climax action scenes were hilarious, Jawan too they are way OTT. Bullets flying around and Father -Son ka milan ho raha hai !! Also, why are so many action scenes shot in the dark??
I had no issues with the plot but most of it seems to have been picked from the daily headlines with no effort to go into detail the reasons for it. (Case in point- allegedly China sponsored protest- ensured closure of the Copper mining in TN ). This movie will do wonder at the China BO. Also I don’t think a Sarkari Bank Babu would/ can behave the way the babu is shown to be behaving with a farmer. Kuch Zyada kar diya .
The women army is just for show, rescue hamesha SRK and men hee kartey hain. The music is loud and unnecessary with Masssy Massy Maasy being played in the background. Haan bhai, maasi hai, classy nahee hai. The set of the jail is so so fake .
Vijay Sethupati is very effective, but I think Arjun Rampal or Neel Nitin Mukesh would have suited the role better. Nayantara did not impress – her role also is so confusing – (uff tumahery usool – tumharey Adarsh). Deepika in a brief role shines. Priyamani and SRK’s daughter reminded me of The family Man web series.

Overall, I was not able to finish Pathaan beyond an hour, but Jawan IMO is much better .
P.S.- Akhshay Kumar ka naaam bhee chura liya !!! LOL
Rathore- VIKRAM RATHORE !!!!
P.S.- Sunil Grover has been criminally wasted in the movie.

********************************************************************

Watched The Vaccine War.
It is an extremely well researched movie based on book titled Going Viral by Padma Shri Dr. Balram Bhargava, Director General of ICMR.
Nana Patekar plays the role of Dr. Bhargava, and he excels. His climax speech gives goosebumps.
Pallavi Joshi plays the role of Dr. Priya Abraham, director of the National Institute of Virology, and she nails it too. There are several more women scientists who are equally shown to be responsible in developing the Bharat vaccine. it highlights the power of women scientists in a very powerful yet subtle way.
The movie itself is full of real instances taken from news cycle from 2020 to 2022.

The antagonist is Rohini Singh Dhulia (played brilliantly by Raima Sen) who represents all the “toolkit” media combined into one.
The dialogs are crisp, the direction solid and does not let the movie be too preachy or boring.
The only issue is there are too many technical jargons and a large portion of the movie has spoken English which could be a problem in interiors. I also wish they would have shown the seamless distribution/ administration of vaccine also.
Anupam Kher, the lucky mascot of Vivek has a small cameo in it too. I believe this movie should have tax free status all over India . It will motivate lot more people to choose this field.
The movie does not hold back punches in naming and shaming companies and people responsible to put road blocks in development of indigenous vaccine. I think it will be a big hit in the cities and small to medium towns.
Matlab Must watch hai !!!

***********************************************************************************

Back from Gadar 2.
Sunny Deol is terrific , Ameesha has a very small role, Utkarsh annoys, the guy cannot act. The villain just shouts and shouts and shouts., one misses Amrish Puri a lot.

Screenplay is a bit sloppy. Some parts are brilliant and some middle parts are extremely boring and slow down the movie, make you impatient. The action scenes are a joke but whenever Sunny is there you really don’t care. They can easily edit out two songs of Utkarsh which are within 30 minutes of each other.

The Pak army is shown as buffoons’ . They have touched upon the Bangladesh and Baluchistan issue a bit. Sunny’s dialogs are superlative.

The theatre was 80% full and there were Taalis at a few places. The handpump scene is brilliantly mounted and shot. Maza aa gaya .

Overall , Gadar-1 kee 50 percent hai, that too because of mainly the superb use of songs of Gadar 1, brilliant use of footage from Gadar 1, and Sunny Deol. He excels as Tara Singh.
Ek Baar theatre mein dekhna toh banta hai!

P.S. – Both my daughters disagree with that, they were like we could have easily watched this one on OTT.

*************************************************************************

Watched Rocky aur Rani.
Enjoyed it overall.
The biggest winner are the subtitles. very apt and witty. When Ranveer says kkrazy- they appear as Krazy , and Alia’s of course as crazy. All other punjabish english by Ranveer has been subtitled brilliantly . ( except pencho has been subtitled as MF)
The second biggest winner is the beautiful use of old songs , maza aa gaya .

The two families are so so cartoonish. The Chaterjee house looks so fake and looks like a set. You can clearly see that the screenplay is by a bunch of SOBO kids with the sensibilities of KJO. Bengalis as classy ( my foot) and Punjabis as gaudy ( overdone)
The dialogs are top class however, Ranveer Singh excels in emotional scenes. Dharmendra is wasted , the few scenes he has , ussko mindless ajooba dikha diya, ek toh emotional scene dey detey ussko., Jaya ko gayab hee kar diya post climax sey ( actually good for us).

The movie itself is a bit boring in the beginning but once Ranveer gets serious it gets interesting . Alia Bhatt ka Khoobsoorat( Rekha) act in Ranveer’s house looks forced and not classy at all.
10% of the dialogs are in English which will not go well with B and C centers.
Saala Bra na ho gaya , wokeness ka medal ho gaya.
P.S – For all its wokeness, the last song in the movie about being of solah saal is so regressive . LOL !!

***********************************************
Oppenheimer
Watched it. I did not get bored even for a minute throughout the movie. I enjoyed it thoroughly . The IMAX seats are pretty inconvenient for a 3 hour long movie but the explosion scene and the BGM made up for it. The theatre was sold out except for the front row. The audience clapped at the end of the movie.
I really liked the countdown like music coming from behind up to the explosion and then complete silence on the explosion , only visuals , and then the deafening sound. Maza aa gaya.

***********************************************
Watched MI- Dead reckoning . Maza aa gaya. One thing I noticed that in the initial scenes India is given so much importance and is constantly mentioned at par with other super powers.
Yeh Naye Bharat kee haqeeqat hai.
# Modi Hai toh Mumkin Hai.

*************************************************
Satyaprem ki Katha
——–SPOILERS ————-
I liked the movie lot, too many songs though . Both my daughters and my wife teared up as well. It is an issue based film in a massy taam jhaam.
My two grouses were -1. – He should have not insulted his father the way and in the language he did in front of everyone., you don’t do that to a dad who has been your friend and your biggest supporter.

2.- The relationship between Kiara and her dad also needed some depth as well as some closure after the big reveal. I guess they stretched the movie so much that towards the end they kind of rushed everything .
P.S.- My elder daughter commented that He should have first taken Kiara’s permission in private and not surprise her the way he did in public.

*****************************************************
Adipurush
Overall letdown by the huge expectations from Om Raut and Manoj Muntashir Shukla.
In order to make it kids friendly they have created a joke of a movie. The songs, the BGM and some sequences ( like Shabri, Jatayu and the Lakhshman Rekha Kavach with Swastikas were nice touches.
Jai Shree Ram !!
******************************************************
Finished watching City of dreams season 3. Good watch. Season 2 was the best IMO.

MILD SPOILER !!
Every season one Gaekwad family member tapak jaata hai !!

**********************************************************
Watched TKS. The theatre was full. It is a brilliant, well made, well acted. well researched and superb production values movie.
The BGM, the songs etc. are so well done that it does not give a feel of a sub standard or shabby movie.
It should be watched by everyone of all faiths , specially the kids with impressionable minds.
It is far from propaganda movie .
Baaki marzee aapkee hai ….

What was interesting was in the end credits it showed Vipul Shah as – “Producer and Creative director” and Sudipto’s was- A film by Sudipto Sen.

There is a superb scene in the movie where the daughter of a commie tells her father that part of the fault lies with you too, you taught us imported ideology but never taught us our own culture and sanskriti.
Hope it is a wake up call for the Johnys.

**********************************************************
Finished watching all 10 episodes of Jubilee . Overall it is a god watch. Thoda Buniyaad ka yaad dilaya . I am so glad that Vikram has moved away from the saaya of Khapshyap’s habit of mixing his politics in his movies.
This one is a pure bollywood drama .
