Shah Rukh Khan rose to superstardom with his film, Baazigar. Everyone loved the negative role he portrayed in the film, and it was the first time when a grey character became everyone’s favourite in the ’90s. And oh boy, the song, ‘Baazigar, oh baazigar…’ by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu was hummed by everyone. But no one knows that Shah Rukh’s movie had scenes copied from a Hollywood film.

This might come as a shock to many of Shah Rukh Khan’s fans, who worship him and remember his every film as if it were textbooks. Well, Shah Rukh’s 1993 film, which featured Shilpa Shetty and Kajol in pivotal roles, was inspired by the Matt Dillon film, A Kiss Before Dying (1991).

The film’s storyline revolves around two sisters and the men who came into their lives. It was directed by the duo Abbas-Mustan. However, the strange part is that there have been scenes that were copied as it is from the film. The concept of Shah Rukh’s film was loosely inspired by the Hollywood flick.

The post was shared on Reddit, and netizens flooded the comment section. One user wrote, “My biggest nightmare is one day someone will come and say me that “Sholay was a remake.” Another one commented, “Frame by frame copy hai bhai..hamara bachpan jhuthha nikla.” A third user wrote, “Even the dialogues were copied, apart from clothes nothing was original in bazzigar.”

When Abbas and Mustan revealed that Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan were the first choice for Baazigar

Earlier, in an interview, the filmmaker duo, Abbas and Mustan revealed that they first contacted Anil Kapoor, who refused the subject as it was risky for the hero to play the role of a villain. The filmmaker duo revealed that they then reached Salman, who was doing the family-oriented film, and his father, Salim Khan, refused it by stating that it was too early for Salman to play such a character. After which, they went to Shah Rukh Khan. The said:

“We contacted Anil Kapoor but he said that this subject is risky and I will not do it. So, we contacted Salman, but he was doing Rajshri films back then, all family oriented. Salim sahab said that its to early for Salman to do these types of films. We lastly went to SRK, and we both gave the narration.”

The filmmaker revealed another interesting fact that Shah Rukh was sitting on the ground while he was listening to the film’s story, while they were sitting on a couch. When the narration was over, Shah Rukh got up and hugged them, and he was highly impressed with the storyline. The filmmaker stated:

“Shah Rukh was sitting on the ground while listening the story and we were on the couch. After we finished, he got up, hugged us and said, ‘Kya kahaani hai, mai karta hoon.”
