Shah Rukh Khan has had his share of fun with his long-term girlfriend and now wife, Gauri Khan, before becoming a global icon. In the early days of his career, Bollywood’s undisputed Badshah was just another young, aspiring actor from Delhi paving his way to the world of theatre. Filmmaker and director, Shoojit Sircar recently spilt some anecdotes from SRK’s initial days and his romantic beginnings with Gauri Khan.
Shoojit Sircar talks about SRK’s budding romance with Gauri
Piku director, Shoojit Sircar recently appeared for an interview at Unfiltered with Samdhish where he shared his early memories of Shah Rukh Khan from his days in Barry John’s theatre group, Delhi. Both were members of the theatre group when their paths crossed for the first time, Shoojit recalled:
“Shah Rukh I know from the time he was in Barry John’s theatre group. I didn’t do plays with him, I was there with them.”
Shoojit then moved on to share a glimpse of King Khan’s initial days as a love-struck young lad who wanted to spend time with his beloved. Recalling the place Shah Rukh used to meet Gauri, Sircar said:
“Connaught Place mein jagah hai, Depaul’s Cafe, woh wahan aata tha… Gauri [Khan] ke saath coffee peene.”
Recalling those days, Shoojit further quipped that he had seen more of SRK with Gauri than he had seen him in the theatre’s plays. Sircar was heard saying:
Romance karte dekha hai, play main maine nahi dekha (There is a place called Depaul Cafe and he used to come over there with Gauri that time. I have seen him romance but I have never seen his play).”
Shah Rukh and Gauri’s magical love story
Shah Rukh Khan’s journey with his wife, Gauri Khan has been nothing short of a real-life Bollywood movie. Even though he’s now a global icon, SRK’s life with Gauri started when he was just another struggling actor trying to make his mark in the industry.
Much like a fairy-tale love story, their romance blossomed into something spiritual when Gauri made a daring move by travelling to Mumbai without telling SRK. Shah Rukh also ventured to Mumbai, determined to find her. As if kaaynaat itself had a hand in it, on the last day of his trip, Khan randomly went to Aksa Beach and there she was, Gauri, the love of his life.
Shah Rukh Khan, who just turned 59 a few days ago, is currently working on his upcoming project, Sujoy Ghosh’s King, alongside his daughter, Suhana Khan.
