In an interview with News18, Soha Ali Khan revealed that when she was born, her dad, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi thought it might be a boy, which led him to scream around the corridors. The actress shared that her dad was saying that they would make ‘him’ a fast bowler after thinking that his wife might have given birth to a baby boy. Later, when Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi understood that they actually welcomed a baby girl, they realised that there had not been many opportunities for girls in cricket back then, as they do now, or else they would have made her a blower only. In Soha’s words:

“When I was born, I think my father was screaming in the corridors, ‘We’ll make him a fast bowler.’ But later, when it was discovered that it was a girl, there weren’t many opportunities for girls in cricket, unlike today. Perhaps they would’ve invested in me as a bowler then.”

Soha stated that the importance of the same is to make her mentally strong and to believe in herself that if she feels uncomfortable around anyone, she will know that she has the power to fight back. Soha can be quoted as saying:

“Often, we want our girls to be good and our boys to be strong. But we want her to be physically strong, such that she doesn’t feel she doesn’t want anyone else to protect her. Even to the point if someone makes you feel unsafe, you should feel, ‘I have the strength to fight back.’ Even though we may be physically the inferior s**, and that’s why become soft targets in so many ways, the idea is to be mentally strong as well.”
