Subhash Ghai is a renowned name in Bollywood, revered for his iconic films, such as Taal, Pardes, and Khalnayak. The veteran filmmaker was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, following serious health concerns. He was reportedly rushed to the ICU after experiencing respiratory issues, confusion, memory loss, and weakness. Today, the hospital released a statement regarding his current health condition.

On December 7, 2024, three days after Subhash Ghai’s hospitalisation, the hospital released a statement with an update on the 79-year-old. The statement revealed that Ghai was presented with difficulties in speaking and he also showed symptoms of memory impairment. The filmmaker is currently undergoing extensive medical evaluations, including a PET-CT scan, to assess possible paraneoplastic syndrome linked to a prostate lesion.

Subhash Ghai’s health history also includes ischemic heart disease, for which he underwent bypass surgery and pacemaker installation in 2011. Recently, he was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism. He is being treated under the care of top specialists, including neurologist, Dr Vijay Chaudhary, cardiologist, Dr Nitin Gokhale, and pulmonologist, Dr Jalil Parkar. He is reportedly showing improvement from his initial stage but remains under close observation. He is expected to be shifted from the ICU to a general ward soon.

Even though the hospital declared that Subhash is still under close observation of experts in the ICU, his PR team recently issued a statement to reassure fans about his health condition. The statement from his PR team read:

“We would like to confirm that Mr Subhash Ghai is absolutely fine. He has been admitted for a routine check-up and is doing well. Thank you all for your love and concern.”

Subhash Ghai is one of the most celebrated filmmakers from the golden era of Bollywood. Under his direction, Hindi cinema has been blessed with some powerful stories. After starting his career as an actor, he turned to direction with the 1976 hit, Kalicharan, starring Shatrughan Sinha. Over the years, he delivered numerous blockbusters, including Vidhaata, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, and Hero, introducing talents like Jackie Shroff. He has also collaborated with legendary actors like Dilip Kumar in some of his iconic films, such as Saudagar, which also earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Director.
