Wicked, Emilia Perez Lead The Race




New Delhi:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced shortlists in 10 categories for the 97th Academy Awards on Wednesday morning. India’s official entry Laapataa Ladies is out of the race while Santosh, co-produced by the United Kingdom and its official entry this year, made it to the shortlist for the Best International Feature Film category. Guneet Monga, who earlier won an Oscar for her documentary The Elephant Whisperers, once again made it to the short list with live-action short Anuja. The film deals with child labour in garment industry.  

The Academy announced shortlists in categories like Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound and Visual Effects.  The French musical crime comedy Emilia Perez lead the race along with Jon M. Chu’s Wicked.

The 97th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The final nominations will be announced on January 17.
